Daylight saving

  • Daylight saving ends on Sunday 4 April 2027 in NSW, VIC, SA, TAS and the ACT — clocks go back one hour.
  • QLD, WA and the NT do not change their clocks.

The daylight saving page has every state's dates for three summers, and the law behind each.

Where the start date comes from

The Bureau of Meteorology counts Australia's seasons from the first of the month, not from the solstices and equinoxes, because that fits Australian temperatures better. The seasons page has all four side by side, and the tropics' wet and dry.

The other three: summer · winter · spring.

Frequently asked questions

When do the clocks go back?
One hour back, overnight into Sunday 4 April 2027, in NSW, VIC, SA, TAS and the ACT. QLD, WA and the NT stay on standard time all year, so they have nothing to change — which is why, from that night until spring, Brisbane and Sydney read the same time again.
