The public holidays around Christmas 2026
They are not the same everywhere. When Christmas or Boxing Day falls on a weekend, states add or move a weekday under their own Acts, and a time after a date means a part-day holiday: the evening is a public holiday and the working day is not. Whether shops may open is a separate law again, and the eight schemes differ — each state's page, linked below, has its restricted-trading rules.

The rest of the year
The weeks left in the year page gives the last working day before the break and the first one back, state by state, and the December long weekends are on a page of their own.
